An experiment in letting live data shape a brand's visual output — turning real-time information into part of how a brand expresses itself.
Can live data become a first-class material in a brand experience — not decoration, but content?
If a brand can express itself through real-time data (weather, time, trends, user behavior), every visit becomes unique without losing identity. The brand stops being a static expression and becomes a living one.
We built a prototype for a fictional energy company. Their brand color shifted subtly based on live grid data. When the grid was green, the brand was one palette. When demand spiked, the palette warmed, ambient motion increased, and messaging shifted tone. Users saw the same brand, but different states.
The effect was compelling when the data was meaningful to the audience. Users felt like the brand was 'alive' — responding to the same world they lived in. When the data felt arbitrary (a stock ticker, a weather feed with no brand relevance), it read as gimmicky and cheap.
Data can be brand material, but only when it's actually relevant to the audience's life. When it isn't, it's noise. The discipline of choosing what data matters is the whole job — the technical implementation is easy once that's decided.
